It was heavy rainfall day almost night and the town shade gray. I was standing in the shed waiting for the rain to stop. An old man beside my left and a beggar sitting on the asphalt side road. There was a woman in umbrella with her Shih tzu hurried up and open her violet SUV and drove away. Then a couple in the middle of argument soaked and then suddenly girl slapped the guy and then run crossed the road wiping her tears. She stops a taxi and heads to the south. Then I turned my attention to the guy who at the moment cursed himself almost whispered then kicked the post beside him. He sat on the wet road. Tears rolled down his checks. It was my first time to saw a man crying. I then concluded that the girl really lucky because he loved her.
The stop light changed to red and came out a group of people from a large establishment in front of me. The shed went full and I’m on the middle of two guys in suit. The guy looked at me with his brow in line but then turn afterward into a sympatric look. I answered him with a wide smile. Then a jeepney stopped in front of us, thankfully I dodged on the flood water or else I got wet. The employees rode and I left in the shed all alone. Again. I was praying that there will be bus so that I can come home. I am scared now and it`s getting late and darker. Mist started to turn in a cry when I heard a voice coming from my back spoke. That was the time I realized that the old man was still there. He didn’t join the group. He asked me where I`m heading to and I told him to the south. I let out a deep sigh thanking I’m safe and not alone. We had a little conversation and talk about everything under the sun. He asked me again if I`m in a hurry and replied “My grandma probably waiting for me now at the front door”. He just nodded. He checked his wristwatch and just closely smiles. I saw three men running towards our direction. I`m not actually comfortable and I suddenly feel nervous. Before I knew it, I felt a cold metal in my left side waist. It was a knife and the man announced it was a hold-up. The two men drag the old man. I begged them to let him go. As I gave my bag to the holdapper I saw in the side of my eye that the old man gave his wristwatch. The three men run away and we left nothing but our plain selves. I was so thankful that we`re not hurt. That`s more important. I looked to the man and asked him if he`s fine. He smiled almost in tears. I asked him why while rubbing his shoulder and voice out it`s alright. I am so impressed to myself for saying those words amidst of the situation. He said that the stole watch was given to him by his deceased wife during their last anniversary. He took care of it for a long time for it has a sentimental value for him but now it`s lost. He asked me the same question I asked him. A lunch box, a wallet with my picture, a 50 centavos and a rial. I said. I don`t actually put money on my bag or wallet; I just put it on my jeans pocket. We both laugh at the thought. In the middle of the conversation, a black Mercedes-Benz stopped in our front. The chauffeur came out and opens the backseat. The old man looked at me with assurance look as he got inside the car. He said he will give me a ride home. I shyly refused his invitation. He opened the window and asked me again. I said “Thank you. I`ll just wait for the bus”. He said “Okay then, take care and tell you`re grandma not to worry she must be by now” I wave my hand dismissively as I looked the car drove away. I wait again. About a minute or two, came a bus. At last. It has been a long day. I lost my bag and almost killed. I met an old man who I thought at first an ordinary beggar but happened to be a tycoon. I did learned a lot today that before i don`t saw with naked eye and took them for granted. I now understand what my grandma told be everyday to value the little because in that little comes a big value. A sentimental one.
